I am beginning to become seriously tempted to!
For those of you who don't have a geek in their lives who often times can be found 'sporting' various items of geek-wear emblazoned with appropriately geeky slogans, "take back the web" was/is an advertising slogan for Firefox.
Against all attempts at persuasion I have resisted migrating to the aforementioned browser, in the main because the time I spend fiddling with designs and code would mean I would need to run both browsers far more often than I do now and let's face it, for good or evil, the majority still use I.E. so I would rather get it right there first.
That said, since the enforcement of Vista in my life and the impact that appears to have on I.E. (none of it good) I am finding it harder and harder to resist the lure of Firefox......the fact that it just works is a kind of an attractive prospect!

Bill who?
As is the way when one has very limited funds everything presents itself for renewal, case in point, my anti-virus subscription very inconveniently was due to expire tomorrow. Ugh.
I have always run Nortons, not because I think it's particularly good, in fact it's a pain but over the years it has done what it says on the box and not once have I fallen victim to anything nasty, so I stuck with it. However, the renewal cost, as the annoyingly frequently occurring reminder kept informing me was a little over £50.
Every penny counts to my bank account right now so I decided an alternative had to be found and whilst I was considering if I dare risk AVG I came upon something unexpected as I did the grocery shopping....Tesco AV at a mere £20!!
Now, my computersnobbery common sense screamed at me not to go that route but my financial situation fought it well and won and I went home clutching the disk in my hand.
It transpires that Tesco AV is actually Panda Platinum, which whilst it may not be 'top notch' stuff it has protected my fathers system for years without a hitch and he has never had a complaint. Things were looking up.
Installation was easy, none of the faff that Norton always seems to require, the only hitch was in registration....hey, ain't that supposed to be the easy bit with legit S/W? ;o), but three attempts later it worked and all appeared to be hunky dory.
There is of course always something isn't there and in this case it was the bloody usual problem....VISTA/I.E. Wouldn't you know it. Perhaps it's time to rethink the long resisted change to Firefox!
The problem: On trying to open the Blogger dashboard, it just wouldn't, the whole machine became manic with constant attempts to open the page and then abort the action and just about every change to every setting failed to rectify the situation.
And then a shot in thedesperation dark.....
The solution: I had Blogger set as a 'trusted site', I removed that protocol and hey presto, it was happy to open it!!! FFS.
Of course, Firefox had no issue from the word go....I really must reconsider my allegiance to Bill!

Firefox incompatibility
I am amused and relieved to read this report in the news this morning!
A recent study has found that it is not only the likes of me, the humble and self taught coder that has difficulties with the current 'bugbear' in my life....the illustrious 'Firefox'.
It seems that one in ten UK websites either not not appear correctly or just fail to work at all when viewed in Mozillas offering. These are some of the 'big boys', large companies including Odeon.co.uk, Jobcentreplus.gov.uk, Insurance.co.uk and British American Tobacco, all of whom presumably have access to well trained and qualified individuals to employ and run their websites....... yet they suffer some of the same problem as lil old me!
Apparently professional coders have a tendency to only check their work in I.E as opposed to using industry standard browsers. I assume that once they are aware of a problem they are better able, than the likes of me, to fix difficulties that present themselves, but it's kinda pleasing to know that at least I check those I do in Firefox and attempt to iron out problems and it's rather comforting to know that the professionals struggle with the same aggravations as yours truly!
Ha.......I don't feel quite so dense now! :o)

Fiddle faddle and Firefox....again
Not to be beaten I have put my little 'cat noses' back in this template and hopefully I no longer have the text jumbled up and overlaying them now! As ever it was Firefox causing me difficulty, or at least that's all I thought it was, until a Mac user pointed out the same problem.
Well, with a little luck and a lot of fiddle faddle it is sorted, at least I know it is for Firefox but as I don't have a Mac and the associated software I can't judge how this looks for those users. So please, someone, anyone, using a Mac to view this, or indeed any other browser, or o/s..... it would be much appreciated if you would let me know if the main text is now un-jumbled from the 'noses'!

Phew!
At last I have beaten Firefox and persuaded it to display my template correctly (I think!? notice the confidence here), I have even un-muddled the spacing in the sidebar for the main part....if anyone knows how to get the blasted FF to recognize a "ul" tag, please let me know ....it is all I have left to fix!!

No such thing as magic?
I disagree, I have proof, I am convinced, converted, a believer....there is magic!
A day or two ago I posted with reference to the fact that in Firefox my template doesn't bear inspection. To be more specific, the header was centered, the content floating left. No amount of fiddling with CSS or HTML would seem to fix it and even DKG didn't have the answer......he who always has the answer, the font of all knowledge on matters such as this, was scratching his head along with myself.
A few posted comments to say it looked fine in their browsers but for some of us it was a sorry sight. Late last night I threw in the towel and gave up, my minimal coding skills tested beyond endurance.
I promise you faithfully I changed nothing more, did nothing, abandoned it and went to bed.....and then, sometime as I slept, in the black of the night, unnoticed and silently the magic happened, for on waking this morning, still bemused I looked again......... and it was fixed, mended, all in straight lines, not a pixel out of place!
This has to be magic, there is no other explanation. The only person other than myself who has full access to my code, has no access to a computer right now and let's face it, no one is gonna try to hack or crack my account just to fix it!
See...magic!! Real, live, amazing magic happens, it's real, it exists and I won't be persuaded otherwise....DKG saw it too, it was not just me!

f-f-f-f-flippin' Firefox
I'm defeated, for the time being at least! I admit to being stumped, unworthy, useless, and entirely inept where Firefox is concerned.
Anyone viewing this page in the said browser will know immediately what I am talking about.....this template may be ok in I.E but it is far from it in Firefox. Arghhhh! I won't embarrass myself by telling you quite how long I have been trying to fix it but believe me I have tried, thus far failing dismally.
The 17% of you who hit me using the offending browser please bear with me, for fix it I will and if you feel so inclined as to make an inept and frustrated blogger a very happy blogger, feel free to hunt around my code and tell me what I left out or didn't put in, that has caused this small catastrophe. On second thoughts, I beg you....please, please, please, if you know the answer...... shout loud and clear before it drives me insane!

Help!
Anyone out there good with CSS/HTML??
You might (will) notice my header title is slightly off centre, you will also notice, if you are viewing in Firefox, that the title is split into two lines. Yes, I know it's a small point but I'm a pedantic bag at times and I want it straight!!!
I'm beaten, I'll be damned if I can get it to behave.....please, anyone out there wanna look at my source and tell me where I went wrong??

Freaky
Hell......it's kinda freaky to no longer be all black, I'm so used to looking at the same set up I'm somewhat lost every time I open the page now and find a different colour....momentarily I think I've hit the wrong button and landed somewhere I didn't intend to be.
From my end this slightly new look all appears to be in working order...please tell me if you find anything amiss, particularly those of you on firefox. I've had enough of looking at it and fiddling for one day and the thought of checking it all in FF as well does not fill me with glee.....so I'm not gonna, I will rely on you good people to holler if anything is defunct!
So what of today..........not much aside from the obvious fiddling. PG's car has again been jump started and ushered to the local garage for yet more diagnostics and hopefully repair. No doubt any repair will be accompanied by yet another hefty bill.
Aside from that nothing of note has happened. I am still attempting, thus far without luck, to find a way to spend Christmas that doesn't involve sitting here sulking! I called my mother earlier for a chat, not having spoken for a couple of weeks I decided it was about time. Part of me wishes I hadn't......right now hearing how the rest of the family are getting together for Christmas is not top of my list of things I want to discuss! Lol..... I haven't even started Christmas shopping yet......not a card, not a sheet of wrapping paper, nothing!
Best I pull my finger out I think!

A plea for help!
Ok......I admit it, I'm about ready to give up on this one!!
My 'comments delete' icon is still AWOL and hence so is the function it is supposed to provide. This has now been an issue for me for a fair few days and the novelty is wearing pretty thin.
I emailed Blogger help as you know and received some advice, clear my temp. files, cache, cookies and history etc. and try again. I did all that......still nothing. I went on to follow their next suggestion, I have checked and re-checked and reset and un-reset more browser settings than is known to mankind (or in this case womankind) and finally I tried their last suggestion, to install Mozilla Firefox and see if that showed anything...... and still nowt. Add to that I.E didn't seem to take kindly to the Firefox being anywhere in it's vicinity and promptly fell to pieces. Two hours more and I had I.E back to it's inglorious normality..........but still no bloody icon!
So I'm at a complete loss. Blogger say they can see the icon at their end and when I post on another Blogger I (intermittently) see the trash can icon so where in Gods name has mine gone?? I have fiddled with my template unendingly, I have set up a different account to see what happens there.........a big fat nothing, I have printed out an original and a copy of the said template and compared them piece by piece..........NOTHING!!! It seems my laptop also has whatever gremlin is causing this, it must be a 'family' thing.
So here is my plea, if anyone out there has even the remotest idea or thought on what I have missed or am doing wrong, please, please enlighten me. I am only too happy to be made an utter fool of, feel free to laugh at my expense but just tell me how to fix this. My next option is to re-format a pc and see if that gives me any clues and believe me I really don't look forward to that only to find I still have nothing.
Perhaps I should just live without it, hell, I rarely need to delete a comment anyway, but I just can't, it is there staring me in the face, begging to be done and ignoring it is not an option, I have to beat this thing.
