Morphing and child pornography
The following comment was posted on here this morning, I felt it needed to be given higher exposure than to be left loitering at the bottom of a line of comments and thus have posted it here.
I consider myself to be reasonably internet 'savvy' but I didn't realise this problem was so advanced. If you doubt the validity of this check the authors credentials out here.

As your resident 'legal eagle'....NEVER post pics of your kids on the net....you're asking for trouble. Trust me it's just not worth it. I ve seen "morphing" of kids with my own eyes....I'd never advise anyone to post pics of children, even teenage kids. Child internet pornography (by morphing) is the fastest growing computer crime in the western world, just behind fraud.
Enough said.

wow! I have always been careful about posting pictures of minors (eg my sister), but is there really a problem when they are fully dressed!?
I don't understand what "morphing" is, I tried the link but it asked me to suscribe to something... is it something like using PhotoShop to paste your kid's face on child-porn picture?
by the way Gemma, I only just realised I cannot right-click on your site (which means I can only open links on the SAME windows, which is a bit of a bummer) - but I guess I'll live with that.

Menina: Yes it is as far as I can tell, sorry about the link, it didn't ask me to join anything, I'll try and find another.
The right click is disabled because some of the pics I have here are copyrighted by others and they prefer that I do that as part of the permission to use their work. The 'open in another window' is not something I often use, sorry, I forgot it would affect that too. I'll take it out when I can. :o)
Link amended :o)
my god, that is just WEIRD, isn't it?
The only positive ting I can see from this is that by "morphing" they are not physically harming any more children.
But it also means there are a LOT more pictures out there - the more pictures out there - the more likely more people will get interested in child pornography.
In summary, these people are exploiting EVERYBODY - the people who innocently post pics of their loved ones, as well as people who look at child porn (not that I have any pity for these folk), and the people who would otherwise have been "normal" until they day they stumbled on these pics... !!!
grrrr
makes me very angry really.

ps-Gemma, no need to change anything for my sake - maybe in Mozilla/Forefox I can open a new tab without having to right click on the link!
Thanks... I just removed all of mine. Makes perfect sense.

You should never post confidential (private) information on the net, since you never know the people reading or seeing pictures etc

Sorry people, last thing i wanted to do is to frighten you. I just wanted to highlight the fact that it is a real crime. Computer based offences are all relatively new, many crimes are just a skewed version of our everyday crimes..ie..stalking/cyber stalking.....fraud/internet fraud and phishing. So in many of our countries existing legislation is used until our governments bring in computer based legislation. I congratulate America in leading the way with tougher penalties, Australia and the UK are slowly lifting the awareness. Countries such as China are pathetic, with a virtual slap on the wrist for any computer based crime. Juries also find it difficult to find many computer based crimes guilty, with many seeing them as "victimless crimes". I could go on forever and bore you to tears..lol....i won't :o)
Gemmak, as I said before I never post photos of my kiddos on my blog. Too many creepos out there - and I think I have fairly attractive kids.
Actually, my sister-in-law, who takes great photos, took some wonderful ones this summer and put them up on her blog and I had to ask her kindly to take them off.
Some people are just nasty.
